Mortal Weather is is about a story junkie who discovers that people are dying after telling him their stories. It’s the first book of a planned quartet. The remaining titles are Tangerine Starward, The Cobalt Edge, and Enough Sky. All titles come from the epigraph poem, “Enough Sky” —

flirts with a slabby moon

Spalls of silver flush livid –

“Brilliant. The narrative combines two first person perspectives in stream-of-conscious style immersed in magical realism and archetypal portrayals, which elevates everyday occurrences. The impact is analogous to seeing out of one eye, then the other, then both gaining a profound depth of field.”

“Common dialogue rises to memorable aphoristic expression with such empathy as to invite the reader to enter contemplative meditations along with the protagonists. This creates a very personal relationship with the characters that lasts well beyond the last page.”

“The story’s colloquialism and local color are reminiscent of Twain, its allusions and philosophical references — with erudite explication — recall Murakami, and its joyful play in magical realism brings Gabriel Garcia Marquez to mind. Nurtured and properly supported, Kevin’s literary impact should become a real gift to the status of American literature.”
